Bottega Veneta

Bottega Veneta - Kering

Steeped in the traditions of Italian master craftsmen, Bottega Veneta has nurtured a new standard of luxury since its foundation in 1966 in the Veneto region. Under the creative direction of Tomas Maier, it emerged with a unique art de vivre philosophy defined by four unchanging principles: outstanding craftsmanship, timeless yet innovative design, contemporary functionality and the highest quality materials. The motto When your own initials are enough conveys a concept of individuality and confidence that now applies to women and men’s leather goods, ready-to-wear, shoes, jewelry, furniture and more.

Tomas Maier
Creative director

Born in 1957 in Pforzheim, Germany, at the edge of the Black Forest, Maier was raised in a family of architects and attended a Waldorf school as a child. From there he headed to Paris, where he trained at the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture in Paris. His professional experience includes designing for some of the most prestigious fashion and luxury good houses in France, Italy, and Germany, including Guy Laroche, Sonia Rykiel, where he designed men’s wear for eight years, and Revillon, where he spent four years as creative director. For nine years, Maier was a women’s ready-to-wear designer at Hermès, where he also designed some leather goods and accessories.

Tomas Maier joined Bottega Veneta as Creative Director in June 2001. In the years since, he has established Bottega Veneta as one of the world’s top luxury goods houses. He constituted the core values of Bottega Veneta, which he calls “the four cornerstones”: fine-quality materials, extraordinary craftsmanship, contemporary functionality, and timeless design. Maier also affirmed that Bottega Veneta would return to its logo-less heritage, conveyed in the famous slogan, “When your own initials are enough.”

Tomas Maier is the creative talent behind the renaissance of Bottega Veneta. In perfect harmony with the spirit of the brand, his signature style is a concept of luxury where discretion sets off to perfection products of exceptional quality.

I ask the workshops to perform a priori impossible feats,” Tomas Maier once stated. Impossible perhaps. But in the spirit of Bottega Veneta, a house famous for its woven leather goods. Chic, supple and sophisticated. Immediately identifiable, they require neither a label nor a visible logo on the exterior. Elegance is carried, it is not emblazoned…
Tomas Maier flawlessly interprets the Bottega Veneta spirit. With his bags, including the famous shopping bag offered in a limited edition each year. His leather jackets as light as shirts. His clothing cut close to the body… Everything that defines a silhouette, a style. A Bottega Veneta line that Tomas Maier has been able to diversify widely, beyond fine leather goods and ready-to-wear, within the universe of the fashion house.
