A Luxury Management Certificate for a new generation of students

Lifting the lid on luxury: a partnership between HEC and Kering gives students an in depth look into careers in luxury

Kering is committed to nurturing the best talents in the luxury industry and with our partnership with the Hautes Etudes Commerciales (HEC) business school in Paris, we support, teach and challenge students who have their eye on a career in the luxury sector. The Luxury Management Certificate course offers a selected group of HEC students a deep-dive into the luxury industry over a period of six weeks, giving participants the chance to work on a real business case and learn about the luxury industry from top Kering leaders.

The Luxury Certificate Class of 2017

Diverse students, top Kering speakers, true insights

Each year, a diverse group of approximately 40 HEC students from a wide range of degree programmes, professional backgrounds and countries take part in the course. The course starts with half a day spent in store where students get to meet store directors, visual merchandisers, stock managers and sales associates for a 360° vision of life in a luxury store. Then over the following weeks, the course continues with seminars delivered by top Kering leaders on topics as diverse as finance, luxury distribution channels, digital strategy and human resources. The roster of speakers changes yearly and represents a wide cross-section of Kering leaders and their unique perspectives.

Building strategies for real brands facing real challenges

The course also includes a hands-on component built around a real-life case study. In small working groups, students are invited to consult on an issue facing one of the Kering luxury brands. This unique challenge allows them to test their creative and strategic skills and to come up with a proposal which they then present to a high level jury made up of Kering leaders and HEC professors. For the overall winners, there’s the prestige of coming first and added motivation of knowing that their proposal - if deemed good enough – will be implemented by the brand.

A one-of-a-kind opportunity for students and for Kering

What do students most appreciate about the Luxury Management course? A chance to peek behind the scenes of a luxury Group and understand what goes into managing luxury brands, the opportunity to hear from top talent across Kering and the case study, which challenges them with the types of questions and feedback they would face in the real world. It’s also an opportunity for Kering to give future leaders a grounding in the core values that define Kering: a commitment creativity coupled with and environmental and social sustainability. Students discover that Kering is a luxury Group in motion, audacious and free to make its own choices and that by ‘empowering imagination’, Kering encourages its brands to reach their full potential, in the most sustainable manner.
