Kering has launched a number of initiatives to ensure the protection and sustainability of natural resources. The Group’s overall goal is to preserve such resources, which play a pivotal role in its activities. Today the Group is taking a step further by unveiling its Biodiversity strategy. Our approach is organized into four stages: avoid, reduce, restore & regenerate, and transform.
Kering’s activities depend on nature and its resources. Their protection is paramount to the Group’s continued sustainable growth. Like other fashion and apparel companies, Kering’s core business is inextricably linked to well-functioning, healthy ecosystems. Any degradation to these ecosystems has a direct impact on the Group's supply chains that span the planet (such as wool from New Zealand, cashmere from Mongolia or organic cotton from India).
To this end, Kering and its Houses are accelerating initiatives to protect and preserve biodiversity. Such actions include: supporting several conservation programs and developing rigorous standards for raw material sourcing, manufacturing processes and animal welfare. The Group has gone one step further in developing its Biodiversity strategy, focused on three goals:
• stemming biodiversity loss;
• restoring ecosystems and species;
• sparking systemic change that goes above and beyond our supply chains.
To achieve these goals, we have structured our biodiversity strategy into four stages:
Stage 1: Avoid
Make decisions that do not have or prevent negative impact on areas with high conservation value
Through its strategy, Kering is driving forward a real paradigm shift.
First, by aligning its biodiversity policy and programs with those of the reference framework set out by the Science-Based Target (SBT) Network.
Second, by working closely with stakeholders whose efforts are grounded in scientifically based best practices, Kering focuses on initiatives that directly impact its core business. A critical issue for the Group is reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Kering is targeting a 50% reduction by 2025.
Lastly, in an effort to inspire in-depth transformation and systemic change, Kering is committed to preparing the ground for all industry stakeholders. The Group aspires to develop the most far-reaching and innovative ideas.
By 2025, in order to have a net positive impact on biodiversity, Kering will: restore and regenerate a million hectares for its supply chain and protect one million hectares of critical, irreplaceable habitat.
