Role Mission
 

The Associate Merchandise Manager for Handbags is responsible for providing market expertise, filtering the assortment, and establishing buy quantities that meet the individual market needs and financial goals within Open to Buy (OTB) parameters and in close collaboration with the Senior Merchandising Manager for Women’s Leather Goods.  Demonstrates risk-taking in business and product decisions and clearly communicates to execute these decisions from showroom to selling floor. Builds partnerships with members of the cross-functional team. Optimizes the stock in collaboration with Inventory Planning to support the growth and meet sales targets. Supports the department by providing analysis and results for their category, recommends action against the results and follows through on executing this action. Coordinates daily activities across designated departments to facilitate responsibilities. Consistently keeps Gucci Americas a leader in the market by providing timely and insightful competitive feedback to direct/indirect reports and Worldwide (WW) Merchandising. 

Key Accountabilities

Business Management

  • Manage the success of the department in collaboration with the Senior Merchandising Manager of Women’s Leathergoods through driving seasonal business strategies that exceed financial goals within OTB parameters;
  • Optimization of stock to sales ratios;
  • Ensure flow of inventory into business with close collaboration with WW Operations and Supply Chain and Inventory Planning;
  • Achieve growth across all classifications and price ranges within OTB parameters;
  • Further develop, expand, and communicate the Beloved strategy while simultaneously focusing on increasing the overall penetration od the Handbag category to the total NORAM business;
  • With guidance from WW merchandising, ensure key messages, master orders or guidelines are implemented in the assortment for the very best benefit to Gucci America during buying campaigns;
  • Develop assortment in accordance with overall strategies, brand growth strategies, and financial plans;
  • Analyze selling trends and react with reorders and consolidations, monitoring the progress of sales and profitability;
  • Optimize buying by store to exploit opportunities by market as well as by channel to properly support the Omni Channel buying strategy;
  • Collaborate with planning department to forecast sales, study and report on competitors’ pricing, product, and merchandising presentation strategies;
  • Initiate price changes in accordance with WW Merchandising;
  • Closely monitor monthly deliveries/Drops and communicate with Retail, Client team, Visual partners, as well as WW to ensure proper execution of planned visual display;

Inventory Management

  • Track deliveries and react to ensure value and % shipped is aligned with seasonal targets and improved on LY;
  • Make sure monthly deliveries are being closely monitored and communicated to ensure proper execution of planned visual display;
  • Partner with Inventory Planning on timely allocation of newness to drive sales and sell through while prioritizing key locations and across channels for an Omni approach;
  • Forecast reorder opportunities to replenish stock and keep sales momentum;
  • Analyze selling reports to execute stock movements and balance sales vs stock ratios by store;
  • Execute store opening assortments and stock levels for new stores, refurbishments, or floor moves;

Retail Support

  • Maximize sales and results by store through collaborating with the visual team to maximize exposure of best sellers, optimize floor capacity, and support brand initiatives – Minimum in store travel 8 days per quarter;
  • Responsible for partnering with Regional Retail Merchandise Managers for collection trainings, inventory support, etc.;
  • Enhance understanding of local market needs and segmentation by eliciting feedback through constant communication with both stores and Regional Retail Merchandise Managers;
  • Support and participate in in-store activities and events to increase customer loyalty;
  • Communicate frequently new product arrivals and business trends;
  • Optimize BOH efficiency by partnering with store to understand their specific challenges;

Cross Functional Collaboration

  • Develop partnerships with regional retail team to ensure the specific needs of each market are met;
  • Articulate seasonal strategies and key product messages to communication partners (PR, special events, marketing, etc.);
  • Collaborate with special events and marketing to ensure seamless execution of events or brand initiatives;
  • Deliver both qualitative and quantitative feedback monthly to planning and WW teams;
  • Ensure the development, implementation, and execution of company CRM initiatives by providing action plans to the team;
  • Gather feedback from stores on daily performance in terms of sales, client profile, and client reaction.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion, Business, Finance, or related discipline;
  • A minimum of 3-4 years of relevant buying experience gained within a fashion and/or luxury environment;
  • Experience in managing and developing a team;
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook;
  • Flexibility to travel with short notice and to work a demanding schedule which can include on an adhoc basis evenings, weekends, and holidays;
  • Passionate about exceeding corporate goals and driving business through excellent execution;
  • Solid forecasting, analytical and planning skills;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast paced and dynamic environment;
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and easily adaptable to change in an ever-changing environment;
