We are currently seeking a Materials Research and Sustainability Specialist to support the Lab Director at our Material Innovation Lab (MIL) in Milan.

Your opportunity 

You will be an integral part of the Material Innovation Lab (MIL). MIL is a shared service center for Kering Brands. As part of our team you will you will research and develop new possibilities for sustainable raw materials (fabrics, fibers, leatherwear, fur and accessories) and play an essential role in the future of sustainable Luxury. As part of a team of passionate curators at our innovative in-house research hub you will support our Brands in their sustainable sourcing choices for collections and the supply chain. The scope of work of MIL includes also creating an up to date collection of innovative and sustainable materials (the ‘library’), strategic support to integrate sustainable materials into products and technical support to define and identify sustainable materials.  


How you will contribute 

  • Research and identify sustainable and innovative materials  

  • Organize, support and maintain the MIL library database  

  • Ensure all material samples are handled correctly  

  • Foster relationships with suppliers to gather supply chain information 

  • Support innovative materials development projects with the Kering Sustainability Department, our Brands and suppliers to integrate innovative and sustainable raw material sources or processes, including diligent follow up with various stakeholders 

  • Give Kering Brands technical support and expertise on sustainable materials and processes: dyeing; finishing, processing  

  • Track verification certifications for sustainable supply chain projects  

  • Analyze our Brand’s sustainability strategies to identify and develop potential projects 

  • Act as an ambassador for the Material Innovation Lab at industry trade shows 

  • Contribute to materials fact sheets and due diligence reports  


Who you are 

  • A passionate advocate of sustainable raw material sourcing and development in the Luxury sector  

  • A textile engineering, environmental science or sustainability university graduate 

  • At least five years experience in materials research and development and preferably some sustainability material sourcing experience 

  • A highly-organized and rigorous curator with a meticulous eye for detail 

  • Able to confidently handle multiple projects and multitask 

  • A team-player who thrives in a fast-moving, international environment with a positive attitude 

  • A fluent Italian and English speaker with excellent communication skills
