Green citizen Kane
Christopher Kane was one of five British brands enlisted by Eco-Age’s Livia Firth to launch the debut Green Carpet Challenge collection on 17 September, in the midst of London Fashion Week. Each designer created two pieces.
Christopher’s dresses were designed in accordance with GCC® criteria, which ensures garments are produced to the highest ethical and sustainable standards. Both gowns are made from 100% OEKO-TEX® certified silk with embellishment made from Advanced Element lead-free Swarovski crystal.
Admitting he likes a challenge, Christopher spoke of the many limitations of the design and production process of such a project. But also of how much he has learnt about the complexities of sustainability and the pride he takes from the achievements of the Green Carpet Challenge.
This innovative use of fabrics sets an example for the industry, whilst also educating factories and staff to work in a sustainable way. He added that his hope for the collection is to
“PROVE THAT ETHICAL FASHION IS ACHIEVABLE, WHILST BEING GLAMOROUS AT THE SAME TIME.”
