Kering to Host a Women In Motion Talk in Tokyo Featuring Amy Homma, Kazunari Ninomiya, and Chieko Murata

Global luxury group Kering will host the Kering Women In Motion Talk on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at TOHO Cinemas Roppongi Hills as an Allied Event of the 39th Tokyo International Film Festival. 

Marking the 11th year of Women In Motion and its 9th edition in Japan, this year's Talk will open with remarks by acclaimed filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda, followed by a conversation featuring Amy Homma, Director and President of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and Academy Collection; internationally-renowned singer and actor Kazunari Ninomiya; and producer Chieko Murata, whose film Kokuho (2025) became the highest-grossing live-action Japanese film of all time. Together, they will discuss the growing international influence of Japanese cinema, the role of cultural institutions and creators in shaping its future, and the diversity of perspectives that continue to enrich film culture. 

Amy Homma, a Japanese-American dedicated to promoting and advancing film culture, was appointed in 2024 as Director and President of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, the world's largest museum dedicated to celebration and preservation of film history, established in Los Angeles by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), the organization behind the Oscars. Guided by a mission to advance the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema, the Museum presents inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections and serves as a vital hub for global cultural exchange. Drawing on her extensive experience, Homma is highly regarded as a leader in the film industry who is advancing efforts to make film culture accessible to broader audiences. 

In recent years, Japanese cinema has gained significant international recognition, with a growing number of films being celebrated at major festivals and awards worldwide. In 2025, Kokuho, produced by Chieko Murata, had its world premiere at Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for Best Makeup and Hairstyling at the 98th Academy Awards.

Kazunari Ninomiya has built a career connecting Japanese cinema with the international film community, including his appearance in Clint Eastwood’s Letters from Iwo Jima (2006) and his starring role in Exit 8 (2025), which had its world premiere at the 78th Cannes Film Festival. 

At the Talk, Amy Homma, who takes a global perspective on film culture; producer Chieko Murata, who has worked to bring Japanese films to audiences around the world; and actor Kazunari Ninomiya, who has experience working on film productions both in Japan and internationally, will discuss the appeal and potential of Japanese cinema, its current standing on the global stage, and the future of film culture for the next generation. Drawing on their respective experiences across cultural institutions, film production, and acting, they will explore the evolving opportunities and challenges facing Japanese cinema today. 

Against the backdrop of major changes in the film industry, the discussion will also address perspectives on gender, diversity, and allyship, longstanding themes of Kering Women In Motion, and explore how creative environments can become more inclusive. 

Following the panel discussion, a special screening will feature The Farewell (2019), selected by Amy Homma as one of the groundbreaking American live-action films that inspired her. Based on the personal experiences of Chinese-American director Lulu Wang, the film explores Asian immigrant identity and family dynamics, earning widespread acclaim for bringing the work and voices of Asian women creators to global audiences. 

Established in 2015 in partnership with the Cannes Film Festival, Kering Women In Motion was launched as a program highlighting the creativity and achievements of women working both in front of and behind the camera in the film industry. Today, the program has broadened its perspective to embrace a wider range of voices—including those shaped by gender, cultural background, and race—and has evolved into an international program dedicated to creating a more inclusive cultural environment. 

In Japan, the Kering Women In Motion Talk has been held since 2017, bringing together 20 speakers from across the film and television industries, representing diverse backgrounds, have taken part as speakers to date. Amy Homma (Director and President, Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and Academy Collection) 
Amy Homma is the Director and President of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and Academy Collection, where she works to enhance, deepen, and evolve the Academy Museum and Academy Collection's overall public and community profile and develop internal and external strategies to affirm and actualize the museum’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. Homma leads creative direction for the museum’s curatorial, exhibition, and public programming teams, with a goal of strategizing and driving meaningful engagement with audiences of all backgrounds, abilities, and interests. Homma also oversees the 52-million-piece Academy Collection, the world’s largest film-related collection, and unites the work of the teams at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, the Academy Film Archive, and Margaret Herrick Library to make the collection more accessible to the public. Homma previously served as the Academy Museum’s chief audience officer and inaugural director—and then vice-president—of Education and Public Engagement, during which time she developed a team to helm the museum’s K-12 programming, including the Shirley Temple Education Studio initiatives, as well as public programs ranging from lectures, symposia, and panels to in-gallery talks and online programming. Before her time at the Academy Museum, Homma was the acting deputy director of the Arts & Industries Building at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, and director of digital learning at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. Homma graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and received her Master of Arts in Teaching from George Washington University.

Kazunari Ninomiya（Singer/Actor）
Born in Tokyo in 1983, Kazunari Ninomiya made his debut in 1999 as a member of the iconic Japanese group ARASHI. Since then, he has established himself as one of Japan’s leading actors, while also working across television, radio, and digital media. His film credits include The Blue Light (2003), Clint Eastwood’s Academy Award-winning Letters from Iwo Jima (2006), GANTZ (2011), Platinum Data (2013), The Crimes That Bind (2018), The Asadas! (2020), Fragments of the Last Will (2022), and Exit 8 (2025). His television work includes acclaimed series such as Stand Up!!, Dear Father, Ryusei no Kizuna, The Freelancer Buys a House, and Black Pean. In 2016, he received the Japan Academy Prize for Best Actor for his performance in Mother and Son (Haha to Kuraseba). He is also the author of It [Ichizu] and Dokudan to Henken. In addition to his acting career, he currently appears on the television programs Ninosan and Nino Nanoni, hosts the radio show BAY STORM, and is a member of the popular YouTube channel Yonino Channel.

Chieko Murata（Producer）
Chieko Murata graduated from Doshisha University with a major in Journalism, then studied film production at California State University. Upon returning to Japan after working at the Sundance Institute supporting emerging filmmakers, she joined NHK, where she worked on productions such as Zero Year: Afghanistan (winner of the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film) and Our Rainbow-colored World (Camera d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival). She entered the Japanese live-action film industry with Boy Meets Pusan (2007, directed by Masaharu Take) and later worked at CJ Entertainment and 20th Century Fox before joining Sony Pictures, where she produced titles such as 50 First Kisses (2018, directed by Yuichi Fukuda). She received the Fujimoto Special Award for Kingdom (2019, directed by Shinsuke Sato). Since 2019, Ms. Murata has produced live-action works at Aniplex. In 2024, with the establishment of MYRIAGON STUDIO, she transferred to the new company and was appointed Executive Officer of the Production Division. She developed and produced the Academy Award nominated feature film Kokuho (National Treasure, 2025, directed by Lee Sang-il), which became the highest grossing live-action film of all-time in Japan.

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures
