40 Rue de Sèvres to host exhibition “Sculpting Paradise: The Collection of Marie Lalanne”

On October 22nd and 23rd, 2022, Kering’s headquarters will become a temporary showcase for selected works by Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne. Christie’s is presenting the exhibition “Sculpting Paradise: The Collection of Marie Lalanne” as part of the Paris+ par Art Basel contemporary art fair. Join us at 40 Rue de Sèvres for a poetic visit.

Composed of about fifteen works, the selection highlights the enchanting universe of Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne, who are widely considered two of the most original artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. Taking inspiration from flora and fauna, works by each artist playfully combine subjects – a cabbage with chicken legs, a pigeon lamp, or foliage that becomes a bronze side table. Whimsical and imaginative, these poetic works inspire astonishment and delight, while also illustrating how sculpture — and art in general — also can be functional, as illustrated by Rhinocrétaire, a rhinoceros-shaped bronze secretary.

Having hosted “The garden of Paul Haim” in 2020, Kering celebrates contemporary design anew and welcomes the public to its headquarters on October 22nd and 23rd, 2022. Visitors may admire the sculptures displayed in the main courtyard of the former Laennec Hospital and discover “Aria of Inertia,” an exhibition of works by the Belgian artist Edith Dekyndt, in the chapel.

Christie’s will unveil the exhibition “Sculpting Paradise: The Collection of Marie Lalanne” during the Paris+ par Art Basel contemporary art fair. It precedes a series of exceptional sales to be held in New York this season.
